The words and lyrics of the old Christmas carol ‘Joy to the World’ are by the English writer Isaac Watts (1674-1748). The world are based on Psalm 98 in the Bible. Watts wrote this hymn to glorify Christ’s triumphant return at the end of an age rather than a Christmas song celebrating his birth in Bethlehem. I believe we can apply this words to both events. The music to the carol is by George Frederick Handel (1685-1759).
